Southern Living Names Naples One of the South’s Best Golf Destinations for 2026

  • August 24, 2026

If you live in Naples, Florida, you probably don’t need a national magazine to tell you we have incredible golf.

But it certainly doesn’t hurt.

Southern Living has officially named Naples one of “The South’s Best Golf Destinations” for 2026, ranking Naples No. 7 among the top golf destinations across the South.

For those of us who live and work here, the recognition feels well deserved.

Naples has long been known as the “Golf Capital of the World,” and golf plays an important role in everything from our seasonal lifestyle to our luxury real estate market. Buyers don’t simply come here looking for beautiful homes. Many are looking for a community, a club, a social network, exceptional amenities, and the ability to play golf throughout the year.

That combination is something Naples does exceptionally well.

Southern Living Ranks Naples No. 7 Among the South’s Best Golf Destinations

Southern Living’s 2026 ranking was based on reader voting rather than simply the opinion of a handful of editors.

According to the publication, its South’s Best survey was conducted between July 9 and September 9, 2025, with more than 17,000 respondents rating their favorite destinations throughout the South. Naples ultimately landed at No. 7 on the list.

Southern Living specifically highlighted Naples’ extraordinary concentration of golf courses and noted that the city has more golf holes per capita than any other U.S. city. It also pointed readers toward Tiburón Golf Club, with its two Greg Norman-designed 18-hole courses, as a great place to experience Naples golf.

The recognition is significant because Naples isn’t being compared only with other Florida destinations. It is competing against established golf destinations from across the South.

And Naples still stands out.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

Naples Really Is a Golfer’s Paradise

The numbers help explain why.

Florida’s Paradise Coast tourism organization says the Naples area has more than 90 golf courses and promotes the destination as having the most golf courses per capita in the United States.

Golf Digest’s current Places to Play database casts an even wider net, listing 108 golf courses within 15 miles of Naples, including 92 private courses and 16 public courses.

That is an extraordinary concentration of golf for a city our size.

But numbers alone aren't what make Naples special.

You can find golf courses in plenty of Florida cities. What separates Naples is how seamlessly golf fits into a much larger luxury lifestyle.

A morning tee time can be followed by lunch at the club, an afternoon at the beach, dinner on Fifth Avenue South, boating on the Gulf, shopping, tennis, pickleball, or simply relaxing by the pool.

You don't necessarily have to choose between a golf destination and a coastal lifestyle.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

In Naples, you can have both.

My Take as a Naples Luxury Real Estate Agent

From my perspective working with luxury buyers in Naples, Southern Living’s ranking confirms something I see in the real estate market all the time:

Golf is rarely just about golf.

When clients tell me they want to buy in a Naples golf community, one of my first questions is usually not, “How many bedrooms do you need?”

I want to understand how they actually want to live.

How often do you play?

Is golf the center of your social life, or simply one amenity you want available?

Do you want a highly active country club?

Is your spouse or partner a golfer?

Are dining, tennis, pickleball, fitness, spa services, card rooms, and social events equally important?

Do you want to live directly on the golf course, or would you rather live elsewhere in Naples and maintain a separate club membership?

Those answers can completely change which properties and communities make sense.

That is why I believe buying golf real estate in Naples should always begin with the lifestyle first and the house second.

A beautiful home is important, of course. But if the club, membership structure, location, culture, or amenities aren't right for you, the home alone won't create the Naples experience you were looking for.

If golf is part of your Naples move, I can help you compare the lifestyle behind the listings—not just the square footage and asking price.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

Not All Naples Golf Communities Are the Same

One of the biggest misconceptions I see among buyers relocating to Naples is the assumption that every golf community works essentially the same way.

They don't.

Naples offers a variety of golf real estate and membership structures.

Some communities offer bundled golf, where membership is tied closely to home ownership. Others are built around private country clubs where membership may involve separate initiation fees, availability requirements, waitlists, or different membership categories.

There are also buyers who choose to purchase a luxury home outside a traditional golf community and join a private club separately.

Each approach has advantages.

The right answer depends on your budget, golf expectations, preferred location, social priorities, and how much flexibility you want.

This is also why buyers should investigate golf membership before falling in love with a particular property.

A home may be available today while the golf membership you want may not be.

Membership policies, fees, availability, and waitlists can change, so they should always be verified directly with the club during the buying process.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

Golf Is Also a Major Part of Naples Luxury Real Estate

There is another reason I think Southern Living’s recognition matters.

National attention reinforces Naples' identity as a lifestyle destination.

People may first discover Naples because of our beaches, warm winters, restaurants, boating, or tax-friendly Florida lifestyle. But for many luxury buyers, golf becomes one of the deciding factors that turns Naples from a vacation destination into a place they want to call home.

And the real estate surrounding that lifestyle can be exceptional.

Depending on the community, buyers may find:

  • Luxury estate homes overlooking fairways and lakes
  • Low-maintenance villas designed for seasonal living
  • Upscale condominiums with country club amenities
  • Newer residences with contemporary architecture
  • Established neighborhoods with mature landscaping and renovated clubhouses
  • Communities centered around golf, dining, fitness, racquet sports, and active social calendars

The key is matching the property to the lifestyle.

Two homes with similar prices and square footage can offer dramatically different experiences depending on the community and club that surround them.

That is where having local guidance becomes especially valuable.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

The Naples Advantage Goes Beyond the Fairways

I also think Southern Living’s ranking highlights something people sometimes overlook when comparing Naples with traditional golf destinations.

Naples is not exclusively a golf town.

That's one of its greatest strengths.

You can be passionate about golf while your spouse prefers the beach.

You can play three or four times a week while still enjoying boating, fishing, fine dining, art galleries, shopping, cultural events, or evenings downtown.

You can have friends who belong to your club and another group you see on Fifth Avenue South.

That variety is part of what makes Naples such an attractive place to own a second home, relocate permanently, or eventually retire.

Golf may bring someone here.

The Naples lifestyle is often what convinces them to stay.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

Is Naples Really the “Golf Capital of the World”?

Naples has used that nickname for years, and there is good reason for it.

The area's tourism organization points to Naples having the most golf courses per capita in the country, while Southern Living specifically highlighted its exceptional number of golf holes per capita when naming Naples one of the South's best golf destinations for 2026.

Whether someone wants resort golf, public access, private country club living, or a luxury home built around a golf lifestyle, Naples offers an unusually broad range of choices.

For serious golfers considering a move to Southwest Florida, that variety is difficult to ignore.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

Is Naples a Good Place to Buy a Golf Home?

For the right buyer, absolutely.

But I would never recommend choosing a Naples golf community simply because someone calls it the “best.”

The best golf community in Naples is the one that fits your lifestyle.

One buyer may want an extremely golf-focused club with a competitive membership.

Another may care equally about golf, tennis, pickleball, dining, and social events.

Another may want a beautiful golf-course view but play only occasionally.

And some luxury buyers don't want to live inside a golf community at all—they would rather live near the Gulf or Downtown Naples and maintain a club membership elsewhere.

All of those can be excellent choices.

The important part is understanding those differences before you buy.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities

Southern Living’s Naples Ranking Comes as No Surprise to Me

I love seeing Naples receive national recognition, but this particular award doesn't surprise me.

Golf has been woven into Naples' identity for decades.

The quality and quantity of courses are impressive, but what truly makes Naples one of America's special golf destinations is everything surrounding them—the weather, luxury homes, private clubs, beaches, restaurants, boating, social life, and unmistakable Southwest Florida setting.

Southern Living readers ranked Naples among the South's best golf destinations.

For those of us fortunate enough to call Naples home, I think we already knew.

And if you're considering moving to Naples because golf is an important part of the lifestyle you want, there may be no better time to start exploring the communities and homes that fit you best.  Learn more about Naples, Florida's best Golf Courses and Communities
