The City of Naples continues to monitor Hurricane Ian as it moves toward Cuba. As of the 5:00PM National Weather Service Advisory, Hurricane Ian is located approximately 305 miles south-southeast of Key West, Florida and is moving NNW at 13 mph. Maximum sustained winds are at 100 mph (Category 2). Ian could make landfall along the Florida Gulf Coast on late Thursday or early Friday; however, impacts could start in southern Florida on Tuesday and spread northward through the remainder of the week. Therefore, it is important to not focus on the exact forecast track of Ian.
The City of Naples is in Level 2 activation, which means normal daily work has been put on hold for storm preparation activities. The City strongly encourages all residents and visitors to solidify preparations for food, water, shelter, evacuation zones, and stay informed on local updates. Although the City of Naples is outside the projected cone, hazardous conditions such as strong winds and flooding can be experienced outside the cone. Flooding may also be exacerbated by high tides.
CLOSURES:
- All City of Naples Recreation Centers, the Norris Center, Concession Operations, Lowdermilk Park, Tennis Center, and City Dock will be closing to the public Tuesday, September 27th at 6pm and will remain closed to the public until further notice.
